Our thriving wellbeing programs are underpinned by a strong sense of belonging, advocacy and resilience where students are known, valued and cared for. Students are well supported in their growth and development of character and citizenship enabling them to be active citizens in a world of uncertainty and increasing complexity. We believe it is critical to develop young people’s capabilities, competencies, and character to ensure they are well prepared for the world beyond our school.
Every person at Sylvania High School has the right to learn within a safe, happy, fair and supportive environment. They also have the right to experience positive and respectful relationships between all members of the school community. Bullying behaviour is not acceptable at Sylvania High School.
Bullying can be defined in the following ways:
At Sylvania High School we recognise that bullying:
We believe that teachers, students, parents, caregivers and members of the wider school community have a responsibility to work together to address bullying with a structured approach to sustain a safe environment at Sylvania High School.
The Student Award Scheme seeks to identify and reward students who make significant and positive contributions in classroom performance, service and leadership, and participation and representation at Sylvania High School.
Sylvania High endeavours to provide a positive and supportive learning environment for our students. Students are expected to follow the values of Respect and Responsibility. Students who disrupt the learning of others may face a range of sanctions until they are prepared to contribute positively to the learning outcomes of the class. School uniform is enforced and well supported by our parent community. The students are proud of the school and should wear the correct uniform with pride.
Our school has an effective support network for students with a Welfare team and a Learning Support team who are able to assist students in their life at school. Staff on these teams include the: Head Teacher Welfare; Year Advisers; Senior Executive; Head Teacher Teaching and Learning; Learning and Support Teachers; Careers Adviser; Counsellor(s) and where necessary classroom teachers.
