Our Head Teacher Administration Peter Gannon has taken leave with a view to retiring at the end of 2013. Mr Gannon has given great service to students in NSW schools since 1976. He started his teaching career at Bombala High before transferring to Goulburn High and then eventually to Sylvania High School as a classroom teacher. In 2004, Mr Gannon was promoted to the position of Head Teacher Administration at Sylvania High School. His career in education has spanned some 38 years with 29 of these years serving the Sylvania High School community with dedication and diligence. He has taught History, English and Legal Studies during that time and is highly skilled in supporting students with special learning needs. Mr Gannon’s devotion has seen him committed to the life of students beyond our school. To this end, he has been deeply involved in Schools Spectacular, receiving a special commendation for his service to this event, the Olympic Opening and Closing ceremonies, State Dance, numerous school camps, multiple overseas and interstate excursions and much more. At his last assembly, Deputy Principal Mr Flegg thanked him on behalf of the school community and the thousands of students that he has taught and supported over the last four decades. In a worthy finale, our junior dance ensemble performed as a tribute to his involvement in performing arts. Mr Gannon was moved by this gesture, but spoke well and dismissed the assembly for the last time by ringing the bell. Thank you Peter Gannon from the Sylvania High School Community!  We will miss you.
